Hockey Director Andy Brandt Wins Community Service Award

The Cooler’s Hockey Director has been recognized for his tireless work in the area of community and charitable causes by the East Coast Hockey League.  The league announced on Friday, March 29, that Brandt is the recipient of the 2012/2013 ECHL Community Service Award.  Each of the twenty-three teams in the league nominates a candidate for the award, which is one of the most prestigious handed out by the league.  The Community Service Award is one that recognizes, among other things, the character of the individual and not just his skill as a hockey player.  The Cooler and the Atlanta Fire Hockey program are extremely proud of Andy’s accomplishment and pleased to have a man of this character as part of our staff.  Never one to boast or broadcast his community service commitments, people who work with Andy know that hardly a week goes by that he isn’t visiting a children’s hospital in the Atlanta area to bring a little joy to the sick kids.

Andy will be formally presented with the award before the Gladiators last regular season home game on Saturday, March 30, at the Gwinnett Arena.  In addition to his community service work and hockey director position, Andy (on the far right in the above picture) is the Captain of the Gladiators and has helped lead the team to first place in the Southern Division of the ECHL and home ice advantage going into the playoffs.

Cooler Roller Hockey House League Registration Now Open

Youth Roller Hockey Returns to The Cooler
The Cooler is very pleased to announce that it will once again be the home of youth roller hockey in the North Atlanta area.
Beginning Friday March 22, the Cooler House Roller Hockey League will start at the 14U, 12U, 10U and 8U age levels.
The League will run for ten week sessions throughout the year.  Each session will include one practice and one game each week.
In addition to House League the Cooler will also be fielding Ironman Roller competitions, summer camps and clinics as well as Tournaments and Select teams that will compete in some of the most  prestigious national events.
Roller hockey provides the ice hockey player a great opportunity to improve fundamental skills, particularly puck handling, passing and shooting, at a lower cost, while also having a great time.  It also prepares the player who would be new to the game of ice hockey with the fundamental skills needed to transition to the ice.

GHRA High School Roller Hockey
Season starts Saturday September 29th and runs through early March.  24 Teams in the league from all over the metro Atlanta area including Alpharetta, Milton, Cambridge, Johns Creek, Chattahoochee and Lambert High Schools.  Games are played on Saturday and Sunday evenings at the Cooler.  Click Here for a complete schedule of games.  For questions please email Clyde Patterson at cpatterson@cooler.com.
